College Student Internships

We are harnessing the power and ideas of outsiders and young people for new projects! We began accepting applicants for our first internship period in the spring of 2017. The internships have lasted one month each in the spring and summer. Going forward, we would like to establish long-term internship positions lasting six months or a year. Here are some of the comments we have received from the students who have interned with us so far.

I was able to discover a version of myself that I didn't know existed.
Even though creativity was very important during the internship, I had trouble coming up with ideas.
For a little while, I even worried that I had come to Higashidori Village for nothing.
But then someone said, "you're very good at summarizing other people's ideas and putting them into action,"
and I realized that I had been fulfilling an important role without even realizing it.
Today, I am using this newfound skill to succeed in college.

By participating in this internship, I learned about the process that is required to carry something out to completion. I realized that although there are some things I am good at and other things I am not good at, by joining forces with two or three people, I could achieve many things that I would not have been able to do alone. My internship at Cosmo allowed me to experience the process of taking a project to completion, which is not something you can learn in school or at a university. I had to struggle and ponder solutions to problems for myself, and this allowed me to discover my strengths and weaknesses. I feel that I have gained a broader perspective and grown as a person compared to who I was before my internship.

*Second Period Interns

It feels like my way of living has changed since my time at Cosmo. I think I was able to develop my own thoughts about what I want to cherish in my life.
I learned a lot of things, not only regarding how I thought about work, but also from the ways in which we spent each day. You get so much power from spending time with people who can smile and have fun in even the toughest situations! The internship was what allowed me to think this way.
It has become a kind of turning point in my life.

In the summer of my second year in college, my internship at Cosmo changed the way I think about work. The company president's repeated statement that "if it isn't fun it isn't work" was what made me decide that I wanted to choose a job based on criteria that didn't only take things like stability, income, and benefits into account. I was able to adopt a criterion that I had never considered before, which was "what can I contribute to others?" I don't know if there's anything huge I can point to and say, "I grew up so much in that month!" but I do think that if I had not spent that month at Cosmo, I would have been living my college life without the will to accomplish the goals I have now.
